What is that Darksaber that Moff Gideon wields in the Season Finale of The Mandalorian?

For those watching the season finale of The Mandalorian, just released today, you will have seen Moff Gideon emerging from his downed TIE fighter through the help of a curious-looking black lightsaber. Two questions most likely pop into your mind: 1) How did Moff Gideon get this dark-looking lightsaber? & 2) What is this dark lightsaber?

So, what is this saber? Referred to as the darksaber, it was created by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian Jedi, and was used in subsequent generations by House Vizsla to maintain power. It lasted in House Vizsla until Darth Maul kills Pre Vizsla in a duel. From there, Darth Maul possesses it until getting defeated by Darth Sidious on Mandalore; however, it is returned to him and he seems to maintain possession of it until the Siege of Mandalore and beyond, until it passes into the hands of Mandalorians once again, with Sabine Wren picking it up from Maul’s lair, and eventually handing it off to Bo-Katan.

However, at some point…, the darksaber then eventually falls into the hands of Moff Gideon….
